FAQ

Questions, answered plainly.

Everything about how we work, and how appeals work in BC.

For owners

Both. Valorem is one platform that runs the whole appeal cycle: intake, analysis, filing, and tracking. Our team can drive it for you end to end, or you can use the same tools yourself. Either way, you see everything in your window.

Send us your notices and sign a single authorization. From there we run the analysis, draft the filings, and bring you recommendations to approve. Most owners spend a few minutes per season in total.

Everything is in your live window: every property, document, appeal status, and dollar saved, updated as we work. You are never waiting on a year end summary to find out where things stand.

Less than a traditional consultant. You pay when you win, a share of the real savings we deliver. Contact us and we will size it to your portfolio in writing, with no obligation.

Ryan does strong work and we respect them. Valorem is tech forward, priced lower, and fully transparent: you watch the work happen instead of waiting for a report. We can also work alongside your existing advisors rather than replacing them.

Only if you want us to. Some owners use Valorem for full coverage, others keep counsel for escalations and let us run everything else. You are never locked in.

Yes. Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest, isolated to your account, and never shared across clients. Your data is used for one thing: your appeals.

BC assessment basics

The Property Assessment Review Panel, the first level of review in BC. Panels sit from February to mid March to hear complaints about the assessment roll, and the deadline to file is January 31. We prepare and file written submissions on your behalf before that deadline.

The Property Assessment Appeal Board, the second level of appeal. If a PARP outcome is not right, the matter can be appealed to the Board by April 30. It is more formal, and most matters resolve in writing through the Board's dispute resolution process.

Before the assessment roll closes at the end of December, BC Assessment can adjust a value administratively, with no complaint, no fee, and no panel. We engage assessors in the fall so that many corrections land before a notice is ever mailed.

No. We handle written submissions at PARP and PAAB. Oral hearings are rare and only happen if a matter escalates; if one does, you or your counsel take it from there with our full record in hand.

Review the assessment, build the evidence, file before the deadline, respond through the process, and track the matter to a written decision. We handle every step, and you watch each one move in your window.

BC commercial properties of every class, through PARP and PAAB across the province. We chose depth in BC over breadth across provinces, so nothing about the local process surprises us.
